Let us introduce ourselves! We are naturally curious about you: who are you and where does your passion come from?
Hi! My name is Ymkje, I am 22 years old and I come from Oosterhout. In 2022, I graduated from Koning Willem 1 College in Den Bosch as an interior consultant and I recently joined Wout Monseurs' team!
Could you tell us a little more about your interest in interior design advice?
Absolutely! Even before my training, I was already very involved in styling rooms in my home. I was always looking for new accessories, colors, wallpaper, and ways to rearrange spaces. I still get a lot of inspiration online that I can put to use.
I initially chose a different creative course, in flowers and styling. Ultimately, I found my true passion in interior design!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Especially through online platforms; there is so much to find online. You will often see me scrolling through Instagram, watching VTwonen, and always trying to get as many new ideas as possible from Pinterest. You can find something to spark new ideas everywhere.
What did you focus on most during your studies?
The best part for me was creating 3D designs for the "client." You would talk to a fictional client and use that information to create a mood board. Then you would get to work on the 3D design and see the whole picture really come to life.
My internship involved designing kitchen projects and styling them. This meant coming up with new styles in physical stores, choosing colors, and also giving advice on new commercials, for example!
How did you end up at Wout Monseurs?
Of course, I already knew that I was looking for a job as an interior consultant in a fun and challenging environment. Coincidentally, I had already seen Wout Monseurs listed as an internship company, so it immediately caught my attention!
Wout Monseurs' clients and the associated office design projects are very diverse and come from many different industries. After reading the job posting, the decision was already made for me. It was exactly what I wanted in terms of project design!
What can customers come to you for?
You can always come to me with questions about interior design. I am happy to help you choose colors, answer questions about office furniture, and advise you on everything related to choosing the right style for your workplace.
Together, we can put all your wishes on paper, look at various styles, and see what fits your wishes. Then we can choose the colors and create the 3D design.
How did you enjoy your first few weeks at Wout Monseurs?
Great! My first few weeks were enjoyable and also very educational. Wout Monseurs' team is very close-knit and I received a warm welcome. I am definitely looking forward to the coming period and the new things I am going to discover and learn.
As WM's new interior design consultant, we are curious about your vision: what does your ideal office layout look like in 2023?
The optimal office design? That's a difficult question, because nowadays anything is possible! Every customer has their own preferences, of course. I do believe that offices should be designed to be multifunctional. So they're not just a workspace, but also a place to relax. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the homely atmosphere is very much reflected in the workplace. It's like stepping into a living room, often with lots of greenery and space for relaxation. Offices therefore have a free-thinking approach and you can make it as crazy as you want!
My personal preference is for a cozy and warm office atmosphere. Think lots of wooden elements, the use of dark tones, and steel.
